RIP FABIAN! WE WILL MISS YOU BUD!

We stayed the night in North Platte, NE, after scoring the day before. This was a sad day in more ways than one. Of course the weather didn't pan out but more importantly we lost a great member of our chaser community. Fabian Guerra was killed on route to Iowa to chase with our chasing buddies Craig Maire and Darrin Rasberry. He was on I 80 West bound when a deer ran out and he swerved to avoid it and in doing so he crossed the median hitting an east bound semi truck. Tragically he did not survive.

Fabian was a good guy. Back in 2007 we had just met and talked on AIM after talking a bit on the old mIRC chat room.  He invited me to chase with him that year in KS and OK in May. I had to decline since I was trying out for an independent baseball team on May 5th. This is significant because had I not had tryouts we would have caught Greensburg together. For that I am greatful that he even invited me along. He did an honorable and admirable thing in helping the people of Greensburg after such a tragedy. The rest of 2007 we spent chating about different things and looked to hook up on a local chase. He nowcasted for me a couple of times, most notably on October 18th, 2007, during the outbreak of severe weather in IL and IN.

Last year we didn't really talk that much as our lives were real busy but we would always comment on each others chases through PM and what not and say good luck and all that. He was a family orientated guy, he loved his kids and wife, he would always tell me on AIM that he would try to chase but would much rather hang out and take his family out which he was a good man for.

Then I got a phone call on Saturday asking if I heard what happened to Fabian. I did not and was quickly told he was killed in a car accident. It literally felt like I was kicked in the gut. Suddenly my successful tornado intercept on Friday meant nothing. I never met the man in person, talked to him online, and over the phone but the storm chasing community is a tight wound family so we all hurt when something like this happens. Fabian was a class act and it's such a shame that a terrible thing happened to him.

PLEASE HELP FABIAN'S FAMILY OUT.
http://www.alert1weather.org/ - If you have some spare change please think of his wife, his daughter (12) and son (6) out during this horrific time.
